Bathroom Curtain DIY
So the house I moved into recently has a lot of character, including an original stained glass window in the kitchen, and a fake stained glass sticker over the bathroom window. Umm....eww? Right?! Apparently a kid at the school across the street threw a baseball and broke the window, so someone had stuck a window sticker over the broken glass and called it a day. Well, I removed it last night in order to hang my new curtain, and had a lot of fun glass to clean up...but that's beside the point.
So that's not exactly pretty. But not to worry! You can make your own curtain for about $15!
1. Measure your window.
2. Buy a piece of fabric that will cover the window, plus about 3 inches on all sides.
3. Buy either a spring tension rod or a cafe rod. Note: I used a spring tension and wish I had used a cafe, because you leave a small gap at the top of you use curtain rings + spring tension. If your planning on sliding the curtain onto the rod then it's fine. Also if you use a cafe rod, make sure to add enough fabric to cover the height above the window that you'll be hanging the rod. Phew!
What you will need:
1. Fabric & Rod. Note: I got my fabric from the fabric testers bin at IKEA for less than $5!
2. Fabric tape for hemming. Mine was from IKEA for about $1.99
3. Curtain rings . Mine were from IKEA for about $2
4. Scissors
5. Iron & ironing board
Decide whether you will use cafe rod or sping tension, and get those ready. Hold fabric up to window and gauge how much you need to cut, and leave a couple inches around for hemming.
Cut 4 strips of hemming tape to coordinating sides of fabric. Iron a fold of about an inch around all sides, then slip the tape inside the fold and re-iron. If your using a spring tension rod, leave enough of a gap at the top for the rod to fit thru when ironing.
Slide curtain onto your rod, or slide your rings onto the cafe rod and attach and your done! Super easy.
