10 Healthy must-haves // Small grocery list for busy bees
I don't go grocery shopping as often as I would like; I tend to eat out, or just snack wayy too much (not recommended) but also because I tend to stretch what I have to it's very last crumb, normally because I'd been so busy at work and traveling. But now that I am unemployed and have more time on my hands, I'll be getting more foods I can work with in the kitchen. Nonetheless, I would like to share with you the must-haves in my book, for anyone really, but mainly those of you that are on the go and generally pressed for time.
side note, most of these foods are breakfast foods, because that's when saving time is most crucial!
frozen mangoes and a protein shake
1. A healthy, grass-fed organic Greek or regular vanilla yogurt. Green Valley Organics has a great one with a good sugar/protein ratio // Greek is of course healthier because it has more protein, but it is harder to find in organic varieties that also has the tasty factor. Also, I tend to just go ahead and buy vanilla despite the sugar content because it's more grab and go convenient than having to mix in stevia or agave. To me personally, it's worth it.
2. **absolute essential alert** Ezekiel english muffins // I get the red package because it doesn't have soy, but all of them are absolutely delicious, and a perfect quick breakfast. Keep them in the fridge, pop one out and into the toaster in the morning, spread on some organic real butter and jelly or almond butter and you are GOLDEN. I eat one pretty much every day. Little excessive perhaps...
3. Justin's maple almond butter // This stuff is crazy delicious, and it comes in small 200 calorie packages that are great for a quick travel snack with celery sticks, crackers, whatever. Spread some on some toast, make a pb&j to take for lunch...possibilities are endless.
4. Organic blueberries and raspberries // Out of all of the produce I try to buy that just ends up going bad, berries never let me down. They stay good longer than greens, they're packed with all sorts of nutrients for minimal calories and sugar, and they make anything taste good. Also, totally worth the extra $$ because they are one of the most heavily sprayed crops with pesticides and chemicals. Seriously, it's worth it...DO IT.
5. Almond/coconut milk // Not too worried about the brand here, although I do try and get the organic almond milk if it's available because almonds are a heavily sprayed crop as well. But, you can't always get what you want, and almond milk is just better than regular milk on so many health levels regardless. I've been getting the almond/coconut slightly sweet blend for a while now, and it's really yummy. If I get straight almond milk it's generally unsweetened vanilla.
6. Immaculate Baking Co. products // Whether you're looking for morning biscuits, croissants, cinnamon rolls, or cookies, this is the brand to grab. Quick, easy, and totally without crap and natural.
7. Applegate Farms uncured turkey bacon // I know people get a little weirded out by turkey bacon, and I've had some that I would totally agree is nas-tay, but this my friends, is delicious turkey bacon. It's free of preservatives, sulfites, and everything else but yummy-ness, and only takes about 4 minutes to make.
8. Chocolate whey protein shake mix // The kind I buy is online, but totally worth the wait. It's from LifeSource Vitamins, grass-fed, non-GMO, hormone free, yada yada - and it's SO GOOD. Protein shakes are awesome because they are quick, but also because they can be used for so many things. Breakfast, afternoon snack, satiation of a sweet tooth...
9. Angie's BOOMCHICKAPOP lightly sweet popcorn // Perfect sweet for at home cravings or take anywhere snack. 37 calories per cup, and seriously too tasty to be that light. I tend to almost eat the whole bag.
10. Beanitos black bean chips // Again, these are so good, and too good to be true on the healthy charts as far as chips go. 5g fiber and 4g protein per 12 chips. That's goodness.
Welp, I hope you've enjoyed this little insight into the grocery must-haves in my life, and I hope you will try them sometime!!
