new work journey: five star interiors

Hello all! I have been so busy with work and extracurriculars that I honestly have put this blog somewhere in the "things I'd like to do but just aren't happening" file in the back of my mind. May have to do with the fact that I'm just starting out with a new site and don't have many readers to keep me accountable. Nonetheless, I have some exciting news to share!!

So a few months back, I was working two part-time jobs as a beauty consultant at Ulta and an assistant/designer at an electrical contracting company. I was super unhappy not making the money I needed and feeling worry about when I'd find something fulfilling. (Although, I LOVED consulting people about beauty products. Passing on acquired knowledge is always nice :) So back in January, I randomly decided to update my resume and try out Monster again to look for job opportunities. I applied for one job: "Accessory Buyer for Model Homes Design Firm: North Austin" I thought this sounded amazing but wasn't to optimistic considering all the jobs I've applied for upon graduating last year. Needless to say, I GOT THE JOB! And it's been AMAZING so far. I'm getting paid to shop for awesome accessories and eventually the company will lean on me to come up with more up-to-date, trendy, unique ideas. The model home industry has followed a lot of the same design standards for a while now, and many of them are out of date (ex. tassel ties around bath towels) just because it's hard to switch gears when builders are used to seeing a certain thing traditionally, there's competition that could easily win the job if the builder feels uncomfortable with a new idea or direction, and not to mention the crazy deadlines and busy schedules that everyone has. Inspiration can sometimes get lost in the mix and put on the back burner. All this to say, I LOVE eclectic, unusual, even controversial design and am so stoked to have the opportunity to work with this company incorporate inspiring ideas and advance in the industry.
